DTI holds Business Counselors Course

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

THE business counselors of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are undergoing a one-week training on Small Business Counselors Course (SBCC) 102 to better serve the public.

The training, which is focused on Business Environment, runs from August 14 to 18 in Zamboanga City.

A total of 26 business counselors from the different Negosyo Centers of the DTI in the region are participating in the week-long training.

The training aims to deepen the knowledge and skills of the business counselors and key support staff on coaching, consultation, and mentoring services to micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) on business registration, licensing, and over-all business environment.

DTI Regional Director Sitti Amina Jain said having well-equipped business counselors will help MSMEs and would-be businessmen through the services offered in the Negosyo Centers.

“It is very critical to have well-informed, well-equipped, and knowledgeable business counselors because they will be our MSMEs’ guide, mentors, and coaches to grow their enterprises. Our business counselors are the frontliners in assisting our MSMEs, thus, we really need to equip them through rigid training such as this,” Jain said.

Jain said they have tapped the services of business experts to further hone the capabilities and skills of the business counsellors in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Speakers from the Association of Development Facilitation and Enterprise Counselors (ADFEC) Inc., will touch on six modules: MSMEs Impact on the Philippine Economy; Policy Environment for MSME Development; Starting A Business; Government Programs, Activities, and Projects; MSMEs Guide to Standards and Regulation; and Exiting the Business.

The speakers include Ms. Mary Jane Tuares, Ms. Maria Trecia Seisa, Mr. Roberto Palo, and Mr. John Joshua Gatchalian.

Specifically, Jain said the training is intended to help business counselors how to describe the business environment in their respective area; assess the business environment influence on the success potential of the MSMEs assisted by the Negosyo Center; demonstrate improved capacity to provide consultation and mentoring services to MSMEs; learn and understand the different programs of the government that are relevant to the MSMEs.

It also seeks for the participants to acquire needed knowledge or enhanced learning on relevant topics and information necessary in providing mentoring and counseling services to MSMEs; and for them to define and understand the different tools in assessing the MSMEs’ readiness to engage in business.

Jain said they have tapped the services of business experts to further hone the capabilities and skills of the business counselors in Zamboanga Peninsula.
