City receives P15-M grant from Japanese agency

THE city of Lamitan in Basilan province has received a P15 million grant from Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), an official announced Wednesday.
Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay said the fund will be used for the implementation of two infrastructure projects in his city.

Furigay said the implementation of the projects will start next month and is not covered by the election ban.
He said the projects include the construction of an administration building and terminal building at the Lamitan City wharf.
The implementation of the projects is part of Lamitan City's program in developing the Lamitan wharf for the betterment of service to the public and boost economic activity of the city, Furigay said.
Lamitan City is composed of 45 barangays with a population of 82,074. It serves as the trading center for the nearby towns like Tuburan, Akbar, Mohammad Ajul, Al-Barka, Ungkaya Pukan and Tipo-Tipo. (Bong Garcia)
