ZAMBOANGA City Water District (ZCWD) has called on its thousands of concessionaires in Zamboanga City to help it conserve water.
The call was made after the ZCWD disclosed an impending water rationing in the city as the water level at its diversion dam has gone down below the normal level.

The water level has gone down to 74.08 meters, which is 12 centimeters below the normal level of 74.20 meters, as Zamboanga City starts to experience the effect of the El Niño phenomenon that is likely to influence the country’s climate through the first half of 2010.
To be able to serve thousands of its concessionaires, the ZCWD has issued five steps in conserving water. These are the following:
1. Storing water for household consumption and other uses in safe and covered containers;
2. Re-planning/re-scheduling washing activities in the evening when pressure is stronger;
3. Re-using/recycling waste water from lavatories for watering plants and other flushing purposes;
4. Repairing leaks after the water immediately; reporting leaks before the water meter immediately to ZCWD;
5. Not leaving water to continuously flow in urinals at public restrooms, schools, cinemas, malls and other commercials, industrial, private and public offices.
The water district is set to implement rationing once the water level would not return to its normal level.
