THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has conducted a one-day Forest Fire Training in Zamboanga City amid the dry spell brought about by El Niño phenomenon.

The training was held after incidents of grass fire had taken place in the city in the midst of the El Niño phenomenon.

The participants include officials and residents from the villages of Bunguiao, Tolosa, Salaan, Lumayang, Pasonanca, Dulian, Baluno, and La Paz, which are located around the more than 11,000 hectares Pasonanca Natural Park.

The World Water Week celebration is aimed to focus international attention on the importance of fresh water and to take concrete steps for the sustainable management of fresh water resources.

Dela Cruz said they basically thought the participants about the elements of fire triangle or combustion triangle, kinds of forest fire and its causes.

He said the participants also learned the different techniques in putting off forest fire as well as preventive measures to stop forest fire.

The participants in the one-day training also include Pamb personnel, as well as officials from the local government, like the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), Dela Cruz said. (Bong Garcia)
