The victim was identified as Haisel Dela Cruz, 14, a grade six pupil of Limapa Elementary School. She suffered multiple pellet wounds and was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians at the hospital.
The police learned that the victim was fixing clothes at the family's closet without knowing that her father's homemade shotgun was underneath the clothes.
The shotgun went off after it fell on the floor when the victim pulled one of the clothes from the closet, the police said.
The victim's father, Cesar, was at the nearby village of Labuan buying fish while her mother was at the kitchen when the incident occurred, the police reported.
The local police are set to file charges against the victim's father since the firearm is unregistered and unlicensed. (Bong Garcia)
