MAYOR Celso Lobregat will convene the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) to discuss the peace and order situation in Zamboanga City amid numerous reports of shooting incidents mostly due to personal grudge.

The meeting to be presided by the mayor will take place at the City Hall conference room.

Invited to attend are top officials from the Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office, Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom), Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), 3rd Air Division, Philippine Coastguard (PCG) and other concerned agencies.

Lobregat, who heads the CPOC, said the police and the military have standing orders to stop and resolve the various shooting cases in the city.

He earlier appealed to out of town politicians to spare Zamboanga City from their political strife.

Personal motives are seen in most killings as some of the suspects have been arrested by police authorities, he said.

Lobregat said they will also tackle the numerous anti-drug operations conducted in some barangays lately, as well as developments on the investigation of all ports that are constructed in the city's coastal barangays. These ports are being used as entry and exit points of contraband items, including black corrals and other prohibited marine products, as well as victims of human trafficking.

He said the proposed reorganization of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) is also expected to be discussed.

Meanwhile, Lobregat has urged all residents specifically village officials, tanods, members of the intelligence networks and other volunteers to support and cooperate with the authorities by sharing any and all information that may lead to the solution of crime incidents that occur in Zamboanga City.

He said the police and military authorities cannot be successful in their peace and security efforts without the support and cooperation of all sectors. (Bong Garcia)
