Hermosa TB Council spearheads lung month observance

THE Hermosa Tuberculosis Council (TB) is spearheading the observance of Lung Month with a series of activities starting Monday, August 1.
Zamboanga City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos said the observance of Lung Month will focus on TB health education activities for various sectors in a bid to drum up awareness on the control and prevention of lung diseases or disorders.
TB health education will kick off Monday with City Government officials and employees as target sector during the flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall.
During the month TB education classes and house to house TB education will be held in 14 villages identified with high incidence of tuberculosis and these include the villages of Mampang, Talon-Talon, Ayala, Recodo, Sinunuc, Campo Islam, San Roque, Tugbungan, Pasonanca, Sta. Maria, Canelar, Sangali, Baliwasan and Tumaga.
Other activities during the month include the Hermosa TB Council press conference on August 5, PhilCAT convention in Manila from August 18-18 and TB Task Force Summit on August 27 to be organized by World Vision and Zamboanga City Task Force Associations.
The highlight of the observance will be the "Walk, Run, Bike to Stop TB Now," on August 28 which will be jointly organized by the Hermosa TB Council, World Vision and Rotary Clubs of Zamboanga.
Studies show thousands of people die of lung disease every year, in fact, lung cancer is considered as one of the top killer diseases in the country, Agbulos said.
Agbulos said the observance of Lung Month is intended to raise people’s level of awareness on the causes of lung diseases and disorders, how to treat them and how to prevent them.
