De Ocampo attributed the big reduction in the number of crimes to the anti-criminality campaign they are undertaking that includes intensified police visibility, intensified patrols, as well as intelligence operations.
De Ocampo said 1,757 of the 3,155 total crimes registered in 2011 were index crimes, while the remaining 1,398 were non-index crimes.
There were 4,351 index crimes, while 7,059 non-index crimes of the total 11,410 crimes that were recorded in 2010.
De Ocampo said comparing the two-year period figures, there was a decrease of 2,594 in the number of index crimes representing 59.6 percent drop from 4,351 in 2010 to 1,757 last year.
The non-index crimes have also a reduction of 5,661 representing 80.1 percent decrease from 7,059 in 2010 to 1,398 last year, De Ocampo said.
He said physical injury, which registered 622 cases, was the highest among the index crimes of 849 recorded in 2011.
Physical injury was followed by murder at 132; rape, 67; and homicide, 28.
He said there was a decrease of 1,146, representing a reduction of 57.1 percent in the number of index crimes from 1,995 in 2010 to 849 last year.
He said theft has recorded the highest with 550 cases for the 2011 non-index crimes. It was followed by cattle rustling at 14.
Last year's non-index crimes were lower at 1,448, representing a drop of 61.4 percent to 908 from 2,356 in 2010, De Ocampo said. (Bong Garcia)
