353 infra projects done in 2011

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in support to President Benigno Aquino III's economic development program for the region, has recorded a 72.43 percent accomplishment in project implementation last year.

DPWH regional director Jorge Sebastian reported to DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson that his office has completed 353 various infrastructure projects for current and carry-over projects, posting an over-all accomplishment of 72.43 percent in 2011.

The DPWH has allocated some P3.75 billion worth of infrastructure projects last year for Zamboanga Peninsula region.

Sebastian said there are some 59 ongoing projects for current and carry-over projects in the region and that pre-construction activities are ongoing for 20 projects released at the end of 2011 under the lump sum allocation.

Among the reported completed infrastructure projects are: the intermittent sections of Siocon-Sirawai road which cost (P39.61 million); a section of the Pagadian-Zamboanga City road (P30.4 million); asphalt overlay of Imelda section of Lanao-Pagadian-Zamboanga City road (P30.41 million); and rehabilitation of the damaged portion of Liloy-Ipil road (P33.9 million).

Also completed ahead of schedule was the Jose Rizal Memorial State University Sports Complex in Dapitan City.

“The regional office had been working doubly hard in the implementation of these projects,” Sebastian said, citing the other projects completed include bridges, school buildings, water system, multi-purpose buildings, farm-to-market roads, flood control and drainage system projects.

Sebastian described the year 2011 “as a tough and challenging year” for them “but collaborative efforts of our officials and employees” from the regional office down to the district offices rendered productive output.
