Short film competition set

THE Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the City Government of Zamboanga is holding the first ever Zamboanga short film competition in the city.
Themed “Kultura de Zamboanga (Culture of Zamboanga),” the competition will be one of the highlights of the 2012 Zamboanga International Film Festival set from February 25 to 27 at the Mindpro Cinemas 1 and 3, coinciding with the 75th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga celebration.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said the Short Film competition is open to all independent filmmakers at least 16 years old and must not have joined any major film competition.
Lobregat said the filmmaker should be a resident of Zamboanga City or any Province of Zamboanga with at least one year residency and must present proof of residency.
Each entry shall follow the event’s theme. Any digital camera may be used (including cellphones) and the video should be at least three minutes but not exceeding 10 Minutes.
Use of copyrighted music is prohibited, unless allowed by the owner of the material; nudity, foul language, slur on religious belief, or any other form of offensive content shall likewise be prohibited.
The film may be in the native tongue or dialect must have readable English subtitles.
All entries should be submitted in digital-video-disc (DVD) format on or before February 16, 2012, to City Tourism Division chief and FDCP local festival coordinator Sarita Hernandez at the Paseo del Mar.
The FDCP shall include the finalists in its portfolio of Filipino films under its Sineng Pambansa Local Film Festival and shall have the right to the exhibition of the finalist in its Cinamatheques nationwide.

The announcement of the finalists will be held on February 22 and all finalists will be competing in the Film Festival on 26 February at Mindpro Citimall.
Awards and recognition will be on February 27; and cash prizes await the winners -- P30,000 for the first place winner; P20,000 for the second place winner and P10,000 for the 3rd place winner.
This year's competition is the second year that the City Government and the FDCP is partnering to advance the thrust of promoting and stimulating local film making as well as to promote awareness on Filipino films.
Last year, the city and the FDCP held the first ever Sineng Pambansa (National Cinema), a program intended to revitalize both local film makers and local audiences by introducing trends and directions in cinema, through nationwide screening of Filipino films.
This year, the screening will include international films making it the 2012 Zamboanga International Film Festival, the first ever in the region.
