Binay gives food packs to Dapitan flood victims

VICE President Jejomar Binay handed Monday bags of food items to 730 families affected by the recent flooding in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Binay arrived Sunday in Dapitan City as he stood as one of the main sponsors in the wedding of former Zamboanga del Norte first district representative Romeo Jalosjos.

The Vice President stayed overnight in preparations for the distribution of the food packs to the families displaced by the flood.

The beneficiaries are residents of Ilaya village, which was submerged in water after non-stop heavy rains caused the Dapitan City River to overflow.
Among the food items distributed were crackers, instant noodles, corned beef and sardines.
Binay said his office intends to conduct relief operations in other areas affected by the flash flood.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the villages of Barcelona, Oyan, Opao, Ba-ao, Burgos, Sulangon, Polo, Tamion, Diwa-an, Sinonoc and Owaon were also submerged in floodwater.
On Sunday, Councilor Apple Marie Agolong, with the support of her families and friends, also conducted a feeding program in the village of Ilaya.
Agolong said there will be series of feeding programs that will be held in all the villages inundated by the flood.
Meanwhile, Binay also distributed wheelchairs to residents of Roxas, Manukan, Katipunan, Polanco municipalities and Dipolog City while in Zamboanga del Norte.
He also met with local officials and senior citizens of Manukan and Katipunan towns and turned over P500,000 Special Allocation Release Order for the construction of their senior citizens building. (Bong Garcia)
