First Mindanao organic farming congress set

THE municipality of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur is hosting a four-day fair that would showcase the latest technologies in organic farming.

The four-day fair, dubbed as the 1st Mindanao Sustainable Organic Agriculture Congress and Agro-Eco Tourism Fair, will be held from Sunday, February 19, until Wednesday, February 22.

Department of Trade and Industry Regional Director Nazrullah Manzur said Friday that the four-day event will feature experiential-based demonstrations on bio-fertilizer and home-made pesticides preparation, Adlai cultivation, modified system rice intensification, among other organic farming technologies.

Those invited to attend the event are farmers, agriculturists, students, entrepreneurs, organic farming enthusiasts, and "all those who are into sustainable agriculture."

Manzur said that Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala is expected to grace the occasion as keynote speaker.

He said a minimal registration fee of P300 will be collected from each of the participants to cover the meals and the conference kit.
