Government sends aid to Dapitan flood victims

DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director Teodulo Romo announced the agency released P1,075,000 for victims of the recent flooding in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Romo said his office has sent a total of 4,300 family food packs that were distributed to some 3,200 families affected by flooding in Dapitan City.

He said the City Government of Dapitan and Oasis Foundation have also extended relief goods to the affected families.
Thirteen villages were inundated by flood after Dapitan City experienced continuous heavy downpour from Wednesday night until Thursday morning of last week.
The villages that were affected by the flood were Barcelona, Ba-ao, Burgos, Dampalan, Diwa-an, Ilaya, Masidlakon, Oyan, Opao, Pontungan, Polo, Sulangon, and Tamion.
Romo said his office has also assisted some 52 households in the municipality of Sibutad.
The Quick Response Team (QRT) and other DSWD staffs trained on disaster management were also alerted for any calamity that might occur in the next few days.
Romo has also ordered the Social Welfare and Development (Swad) team in Zamboanga del Norte to stock up family packs that would be distributed if needed.
Some 780 family food packs had been prepositioned at the Swad office in Zamboanga del Norte, he said. (Bong Garcia)
