Sayyafs release child

THE Abu Sayyaf bandits have released the eight-year-old girl they abducted in July this year in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, a military official said Thursday.

Armed Forces information officer Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc said the child (name withheld for being a minor) was released around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the wharf of Jolo, Sulu.

Weighing scales checked

THE City Treasurer’s Office has slapped a penalty against five stall owners who were caught using altered weighing scales while doing business in one of the private markets in Zamboanga City.

The penalty was imposed after a combined inspection team of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and City Treasurer’s Office confiscated five altered weighing scales in a surprise inspection conducted Thursday in at least two private markets in the city.

Militia slain in highway robbery

A MILITIA volunteer was killed by gunmen in a highway robbery in the nearby province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Thursday.

Gunman kills 2 in Basilan

TWO people were shot dead by a lone gunman in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, the police said Wednesday.

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has approved a resolution setting calendar of activities for the February 21, 2015 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in the country.

First district election officer lawyer Stephen Cañete said the Comelec, through Resolution 9905, declared that the election period is from January 22 to March 2, 2015.

Nutrition forum set

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to conduct a one-day nutrition forum for members of the local media and information officers of National Government agencies and academic institutions in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Notorious drug pusher in Recodo arrested

OPERATIVES of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) arrested a suspected notorious drug pusher and confiscated P363,970 cash believed to be proceeds of prohibited drugs in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, an official announced Tuesday.

The police also arrested six other people and have confiscated 122.8 grams of suspected shabu and a loaded handgun.

Gunmen shoot 3 in Isabela City

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen have shot and wounded three people, including a village chief in Isabela City, Basilan, the police reported Tuesday.

Isabela City police chief Albert Larubis said the shooting happened around 2:40 p.m. Monday at Valderoza Street in the village of Port Area.

AUTHORITIES have arrested a suspected mid-level Abu Sayyaf leader facing four counts of kidnapping with serious illegal detention case in Basilan province, the police reported Tuesday.

The police identified the arrested suspect as Nasser Usman, a resident of Barangay Tandung Ahas, Lamitan City, Basilan.

Water rationing up in Zambo

ZCWD General Manager Leonardo Rey Vasquez said Monday the water rationing will take effect Tuesday, adding that the reduction was due to turbidity problem from the source.

2 NPA rebels killed

TWO suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with combined military and police forces in the hinterlands of Davao del Norte, the military said Monday.

4 human trafficking victims rescued

THE Sea-Based Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (SBATTF) foiled a human trafficking attempt and rescued four victims in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Sunday.

Police Regional Office- Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) information officer-in-charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin withheld the identities of the rescued victims, but said that “all (victims are) of legal ages and all from Metro Manila.”

Girl drowns, another missing in Zambo

9 injured in vehicular accidents

Port cargo-handling firm boosts capability

Police Station 1 Commander Senior Inspector Salvador Galvez said the 11 engines and an improvised compressor were confiscated around 7:10 a.m. Wednesday along the coast of Limaong village, 83 kilometers east of Zamboanga City.
