Bombing plot in Basilan thwarted

GOVERNMENT troops thwarted a possible bombing plot of the Abu Sayyaf's Urban Terrorist Group (UTG) in Basilan after they recovered bombmaking materials, the military reported Tuesday.

Captain Ma. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, said the plot was uncovered after soldiers clashed with four UTG members led by Edris Sampang Tuesday morning in Barangay Kulay Bato, Lamitan City.

Fugitive village official captured

POLICE arrested a barangay official who is wanted for murder in Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said Tuesday.

Wilfredo Bantoy, 56, a councilman in Barangay Dipolod, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte, was arrested Monday morning, said Zamboanga Sibugay Police Director Jose Bayani Gucela.

Zamboanga motorcade to launch tax campaign

A MOTORCADE around Zamboanga City today, March 4, kicks off the Bureau of Internal Revenue's (BIR) campaign to remind the public to pay proper taxes.

Alert Alocilja, BIR regional director, said the launching program will be held at one of the city's hotels after the motorcade.

Zamboanga weightlifting training centers to get upgrade

Water rationing begins

ZAMBOANGA City will have 10 to 12 hours of water rationing beginning today, March 3, a water firm official said Monday.

Teotimo Reyes Jr., Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) production head, said rationing is needed because the water level at the water district's diversion dam has dropped to 74.10 meters, .10 meters lower than normal.

3 wounded Marines cited for heroism

THREE Marines who were wounded during a recent clash with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Central Mindanao have been cited for gallantry in action, a military official said Monday.

Captain Jo-ann Petinglay, the Army's 6th Infantry Division information officer, said the Wounded Personnel Medal was awarded to Staff Sergeant Henry Blas, Sergeant Anthony Fuentes, and Corporal Menjamin Hailid of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-6.

Zamboanga del Norte fugitive falls

3 persons face drugs raps

THREE suspected drug pushers were charged before the City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, a top police official said Saturday.

115 displaced families get permanent shelters

Road accident kills councilor, pedestrian
