Police rescue abducted girl

AN 18-YEAR-OLD, who was abducted in Misamis Occidental, was rescued by policemen in the village of Ayala, 16.50 kilometers west of Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City police Officer-in-Charge Angelito Casimiro identified the abducted girl as Lyka Noblefranca, 18, a resident of Lower Langcangan village, Oroquieta City, the capital of Misamis Occidental.

8 injured in Bolong highway collision

EIGHT people were injured when the vehicle they were riding fell into a ravine after colliding with a motorcycle in Bolong village, Zamboanga City, the police reported Friday.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) spokesman Ariel Huesca said the accident happened around 5 p.m. Thursday in Sitio Mala in the village of Bolong.

Bizman survives gun attack in Sinunuc village

A BUSINESSMAN survived despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds in a gun attack staged by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Sinunuc village, Zamboanga City, the police reported Friday.

The police identified the victim as Abdul Jaman, 46, a resident of Purok 9, Sinunuc village.

City Government gives P1.2-M aid to fire victims

THE City Government of Zamboanga has released the sum of P1.2 million as financial assistance to victims of the fire that recently hit a west coast village in Zamboanga City.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar handed over the financial aid to the 307 fire-victim families on Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.

Gunmen shoot village official

A VILLAGE official was shot and wounded by motorcycle-riding gunmen in the island province of Basilan, the police reported Thursday.

The incident took place around 12:56 p.m. Thursday in the village of Matibay, Lamitan City, the Basilan Police Provincial Office reported.

Drug pusher falls in buy-bust operation

THE police are set to file criminal charges against a suspected drug pusher they have arrested in a buy-bust operation in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province, a police official said Thursday.

Isabela City police commander Superintendent Albert Larubis identified the arrested suspect as Eleazar Faustino, 44, a resident of the village of Tabiawan in that city.

Faith healer killed, 2 others wounded

A FAITH healer was killed while two others were wounded on two separate gun attacks in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Thursday.

OCD gets additional rubber boat

Comelec: Only few PWDs register in Zambo City

Navy man mauls stand-up comedian

A MEMBER of the Philippine Navy was arrested after he allegedly mauled and threatened a stand-up comedian at a night club in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday.

Zamboanga airport to collect parking fees

THE police have arrested an alleged drug pusher, who is facing charges for the same offense, in a buy-bust operation in Basilan province, the police said Saturday.

Teen dies, another hurt in gun attack

A TEENAGER died while another survived although hurt in a gun attack in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, the police said Saturday.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca identified the fatality as Marlon Tarroza, 19, who was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Dredging at Zambo wharf set

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is set to undertake a dredging project to put into operation the newly-expanded portion of the port of Zamboanga.

Port Manager Engineer Liberto Dela Rosa said there is a need to conduct dredging since the expanded area cannot accommodate big vessels as its depth is only 2.4 meters.

Troops capture 3 NPA rebels

P49-M needed to open science high school

AN OFFICIAL of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that at least P49 million fund is needed to open a Philippines Science High School (PSHS) in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Martin Wee, DOST’s assistant regional director for administrative support and technical services, said the P49 million will be spent for the construction and operation of the science high school.

Tour guide training held

Coast Guard lifts suspension of sea trips

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has lifted the suspension of sea voyages from Zamboanga City to the nearby provinces, as well as, to the Visayas as the sea condition has improved after Typhoon Glenda hit several parts of the country.

Zamboanga Coast Guard Station commander Lieutenant Senior Grade Jomark Angue said they have lifted the suspension of voyages effective 7 a.m. Wednesday.
