A MEMBER of the Philippine Marine was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, a police official said Monday.
Chief Inspector Elmer Acuña, Police Station 6 commander, said the incident happened around 1:20 a.m. Sunday at Crispin Atilano Street, Tetuan village.
Acuña identified the victim as Private First Class (PFC) Ernesto Singson, 26, a native of Maluso town in Basilan province.
Singson, who is residing in the village of Maasin, was assigned with the Marine Battalion Landing Team-11 (MBLT-11).
Singson died around 6 p.m. Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Zamboanga City Medical Center, Acuña said.
Seven spent shells of caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the crime scene, Acuña said.
Investigation showed that before the incident, Singson was having a drinking spree together with his school mates at a bar along Gov. Alvarez Avenue, Acuña said.
He said the victim has borrowed a motorcycle from one of his friends and left after receiving a call on his mobile phone.
The victim apparently knew who the suspects were since the motorcycle he used was on a “full stop” position when it was recovered from the crime scene, he said.
The police are eyeing love affair as possible motive of the incident, he said.
It was learned that Singson was scheduled to be married last month but has backed out from it and is reportedly having an affair with another woman, Acuña said.
