New Zamboanga police director eyed-A A +A
Thursday, June 21, 2012
POLICE Regional Office (PRO) Zamboanga Peninsula Director Napoleon Estilles said he is eyeing to assign another officer to head the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO).
However, Estilles said the officer will also serve as the ZCPO officer-in-charge (OIC) like PRO Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA) Chief Superintendent Mario Yanga, who is the concurrent OIC of the ZCPO.
Yanga was designated as the OIC of the ZCPO in concurrent capacity upon the request of Mayor Celso Lobregat as replacement for Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, who was assigned as city director for a little over two years.
Under the Philippine National Police (PNP) law, an officer could serve in a particular position or assignment for a period of two years.
In the meantime, Estilles did not reveal the identity of the officer with a rank of Senior Superintendent but said “I have someone in mind.”
The officer will serve as the OIC of the ZCPO until such time Mayor Celso Lobregat chooses and decides who will be the ZCPO director, according to Estilles.
A list of five officers had been recently submitted to Lobregat but the mayor had not yet made his choice.
On the list are Senior Superintendents Sofronio Ecaldre, Jonathan Perez, Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Nelson Eucogco, and Joselito Pajarillaga.
Lobregat said Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro is the officer of his choice though not included in the list given him by the PNP.
Estilles said Casimiro could not be designated as the ZCPO director since he is not assigned in the region aside from not among the officers in the list submitted to Lobregat.
It was also learned from Estilles that Casimiro is a candidate for director of the Baguio City Police. (Bong Garcia)
