Five arrested for illegal logging

THE anti-illegal logging task force have arrested five people and seized around 200 flitches of hard wood species in the west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police said Wednesday.
The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said the arrest and confiscation were made around 11:45 p.m. Monday in the village of Labuan, west of the city.
The police identified the arrested suspects as Jumadil Adjaluddin, 43, Abser Jaji, 51, Aljimar Julari, 26, Juraya Hamja, 52, and Midzfar Alibasa, 21, all residents of the city.
The police said the arrest came after they received information that lumber flitches are being unloaded at the shore of Labuan village coming from Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.
Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were some 4,200 board feet mostly of Yakal species with an estimated market value of P126,021, the police said.
The suspects were subjected on Wednesday to inquest proceedings before the City Prosecutor’s office.
