Police: Voters’ registration ‘peaceful’

LAMITAN CITY, Basilan – Senior Superintendent Alexander Linesis, provincial police director, said on Tuesday that the holding of the voters’ registration in the entire province is generally peaceful.
Linesis said there was no significant violence noted except for a brawl that happened in Sumisip town.
“May nag-suntukan nong umalis kami,” Linesis said, citing he and a team of policemen are visiting one municipality to the other since Monday.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is conducting a 10-day new listing of voters in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).
Except for Isabela City, this province’ capital, the registration of voters is being held in this city and in the towns of Mohammad Ajul, Akbar, Tuburan, Tipo-Tipo, Ungkaya Pukan, Al-Barka, Sumisip, Tabuan Lasa, Hadji Mutammad, Lantawan and Maluso.
Linesis said a total of 2,400 policemen and military were deployed to secure the conduct of the registration of voters in this province.
Linesis added that so far the holding of the voters’ registration is going on smoothly.
