A CONSTRUCTION worker was killed while two others were wounded in a rumble at a construction site in an interior village east coast of Zamboanga City, a report said.
Police Station 3 reported that the incident took place around 8 p.m. Thursday at sitio Udjung, Bunguiao village, 34 kilometers east of the city.
The police identified the fatality as Robert Francisco, 34, who sustained multiple stab wounds and died while undergoing medical treatment.
Wounded were Bernard Tagavilla, 47, a construction foreman and Roel Martinez, 44, married, a farmer, according to the police.
Investigation showed that Francisco and Tagavilla were already sleeping at the construction site barracks when Martinez and his two nephews namely Ruby Martinez and Renie Martinez arrived and challenged anyone to a fight, the police said.
The Martinezes were earlier seen having a drinking spree at a nearby videoke joint, the police said.
Francisco took his .38 caliber revolver and fired a warning shot to stop Martinez from getting closer to him, the police said.
The two younger Martinezes grabbed Francisco’s revolver and then shot Tagavilla who was trying to pacify the incident while the elder Martinez pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Francisco.
The elder Martinez was also wounded since Francisco, though wounded, managed to fight back by also stabbing the former, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
