THIRTY-EIGHT people were injured in a vehicular accident in Lamitan City in the province of Basilan on Sunday.
The police said the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the village of Calugusan.
The identities of the victims are not yet available, except that 31 of them are students while the seven are faculty members of the Furigay Colleges Inc. (FCI).
The victims were aboard the truck of the second Naval Construction Battalion that was on its way to Lamitan City proper when it went out of balance, throwing the passengers overboard.
The FCI said in a statement the victims were on their way home after a coastal cleanup drive at Calugusan Beach.
Two of the students were rushed to a hospital in Zamboanga City for treatment. Two of them suffered bone fractures.
The rest of the victims were treated at the Dr. Jose Ma. Torres Memorial Hospital in Lamitan City.
“Rest assured the FCI administration and management will attend to their medical needs,” the school management said.
