GUNMEN riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle killed a village chief in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Friday.
Superintendent Nelson Eucogco, spokesman of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Zamboanga Peninsula, said the incident took place around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the village of Dansalan, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.
Eucogco identified the victim as Emmanuel Galon, 45, the village chief of
Bobongan, Labason town.
Investigation showed that the victim was driving his motorcycle when he was tailed and shot by one of the two men riding-in-tandem on another motorcycle along the national highway of Dansalan village.
Passersby rushed Galon to the district hospital in the town of Liloy but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Eugoco said.
Policemen who responded to the crime scene recovered an empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol.
Investigation is still ongoing to identify the perpetrators.
