Convention of Philippine councilors set

THE city of Zamboanga will roll out the red carpet for some 1,000 officers and members of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) arriving next week for the 3rd National Executive Officers and National Board meeting.

Mayor Celso Lobregat presided on Tuesday a coordinative meeting with representatives from offices and agencies concerned to ensure a hassle-free convention from September 12-14 here in Zamboanga City.

Those who attended the meeting were Councilor Rodolfo Lim, who is designated over-all coordinator, Councilors Reinerio Candido, Myra Paz Abubakar, Percival Ramos, Luis Biel III and Rogelio Valesco Jr., City Secretary Zenaida Jayme, City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr., City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez and representatives from the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) as well as representatives from PCL.

As preparations are rife for the PCL National Convention next week, Zamboanga City is also gearing up for two other huge conventions this year--the 4th Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Mindanao Convention of Lawyers and the National Conference of the Career Executive Officers Association.

“This is really a part of our effort to promote Zamboanga City by bringing out the good, the positive, the best and the beautiful of Zamboanga,” Lobregat said.

Zamboanga City has been dubbed as the convention center in the region, as it hosts the most number of conventions--of local, national and international scale every year.

Aside from the continuing local legislative education program, the PCL officers and members will also get the chance to tour around Zamboanga City to see the various attraction sites.

The PCL National Convention will have national officials as guests of honor from its opening day to the welcome night and closing program.

The PCL is headed by president Alma Moreno-Salic of Parañaque City.

Salic was in Zamboanga City together with the PCL National Chairman and Tagum City Councilor Allan Zulueta and other PCL officers last May to prepare the groundwork for this month’s event.

The former actress showed no qualms in talking about many things that Zamboanga City has to offer and how infatuated she is with the city and its people citing her numerous visits before. (Bong Garcia)
