Riding in tandem gunmen shoot soldier

GUNMEN riding tandem on a motorcycle shot and wounded a soldier in the island province of Basilan, the police reported Friday.
The incident took place around 10:15 p.m. Thursday along the highway in the village of Binuangan, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan.
The police identified the victim as Sergeant Ferdinand Ontulan, 31, who is assigned with the Army Scout Ranger based in the village of Tabuk, Isabela City.
Investigation showed that the victim was onboard his motorcycle on the way home to Barangay Upper Lanote when shot and wounded by one of the two gunmen.
The police said the motive of the incident was robbery, citing the suspects carted away the victim's motorcycle and fled to an unknown direction.
The victim was rushed to the Basilan Province General Hospital by civilians living near the place of the incident.
Investigation continues to identify the suspects, the police said.
