Mayor welcomes councilors league delegates

MAYOR Celso Lobregat leads the local government officials and residents in welcoming the Philippine Councilors League's (PCL) members who will converge for their three-day annual conference in Zamboanga City.

The PCL annual conference opens Wednesday and ends on Friday. Over a thousand delegates coming from all over the country are expected to attend the 3rd Quarterly National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting, as well as the Continuing Local Legislative Education Program (CLLEP) of the PCL.

Lobregat, in an executive order issued last week, has declared the period from September 9 to 15 this year as PCL Week here in Zamboanga City, enjoining residents to extend a warmest welcome to the delegates.

The order likewise enjoins the business community in this city "to join the significant occasion by giving discounts and/or promotional materials to the delegates patronizing their establishments."

Lobregat said the PCL activity in Zamboanga City will definitely bolster the city’s tourism promotion efforts, specifically in the thrust to bring out the good, the positive, the best and the beautiful of Zamboanga City.

The PCL is an organization composed of all elected, appointed and ex-officio members of legislative councils in cities and municipalities in the country.

The group is duly accredited by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) as a local government association in 1990. It is headed by Parañaque City Councilor Alma Moreno-Salic.

Aside from the continuing local legislative education program, the PCL officers and members will also get the chance to tour around the city to see the various attraction sites.

Meanwhile, Zambaonga City is also gearing up for two other huge conventions this year -- the 4th IBP Mindanao Convention of Lawyers and the National Conference of the Career Executive Officers Association.

Zamboanga City has been dubbed as the convention center in the region, as it hosts the most number of conventions - of local, national and international scale every year. (Bong Garcia)
