VISITING delegates from the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Achievement Fund have commended “the impressive implementation” of the nutrition program in Zamboanga City.
Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita Flores of the National Nutrition Council of the Department of Health lauded Mayor Celso Lobregat for the support that the City Government had extended to the nutrition program.
“We have visited some barangay wellness centers and the hospitals. We met with some mothers and children, and we are humbled by what we saw. We will leave Zamboanga City with a heavy heart,” Flores said.
“We have seen the achievements in working with these people. In Barangay Canelar we saw healthy children who were interacting well with barangay officials in terms of nutrition and breastfeeding,” said Stephen Anderson of the World Food Program.
Undersecretary Oyen Casanova Dorotan of the Office of the Presidential Anti-Poverty Commission said the people of Zamboanga City are fortunate to have Lobregat as mayor, who is very supportive of social investment program.
“Also, by the time we touched down Zamboanga City we can see the ambience of prosperity,” Dorotan said.
Other members of the MDG Fund delegation, who visited City Hall, were Tomoo Hozumi and Henry Mdebwe, both of United Nations Children’s Fund, Lawrence Jeff Johnson of the International Labor Organization, Mari Fare of United Nations Coordination Office and Kazuyuki Tsurumi of Food and Agriculture Organization.
