Ambush kills village chief, injures pal

GUNMEN have killed a top village official and injured another in an ambush in the hinterlands of Zamboanga Sibugay province, a top official said.
Senior Superintendent Jonathan Perez said the incident took place Tuesday night at Purok Mangga in the village of Bangco, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay province.
Perez identified the slain official as Alberto Arabia, 40, the village chief of Marcelo, Kalawit town, Zamboanga del Norte Province.
Wounded was Arabia’s back rider Ernie Sumaylo, a resident of Marcelo village, Kalawit town.
Investigation showed that Arabia was driving a motorcycle with Sumaylo on their way home when they were ambushed by three unidentified gunmen in a secluded and unlighted area in Bangco village, Titay town, Perez said.
Arabia, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, died on the spot while Sumaylo survived although sustaining two bullet wounds.
Investigation continues to determine the motive of the incident a nd establish the identities of the suspects. (Bong Garcia)
