Head-on collision kills 1, injures 9

A PASSENGER van driver was killed while nine others were injured in a head-on collision in an east coast village in Zamboanga City, a police official said Thursday.

Police Station 2 commander Chief Inspector Ricardo Garcia said the incident took place shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday in Sitio Binaloy, Buenavista village, 54 kilometers east of the city.

Garcia identified the fatality as Erwin Sierra, the driver of the passenger van. Sierra died while undergoing medical attention.

Garcia said the head-on collision involved a passenger van driven by Sierra and a 10-wheeler cargo truck loaded with liquefied petroleum gas tanks driven by Ernie Nuñeza.

Investigation showed the passenger van was en route to the city proper while the cargo truck was on its way to Bukidnon when the two vehicles collided while negotiating a blind curve in Sitio Binaloy, Buenavista village, Garcia said.
