ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Three people, including a couple and a seven-year-old child, were injured when a grenade explosion rocked this city amid tight security for the celebration of the Fiesta Hermosa 2012.
The police said the incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday at the junction of Mayor Vitaliano Agan and Governor Camins Avenues.
The police did not release the identities of the victims but reported that the couple owned the Blue Shark Hotel, while the child is a cigarette vendor. The victims sustained slight injuries.
Initial investigation showed the couple was aboard a pick-up vehicle when two men riding tandem in a motorcycle tossed two MK2 fragmentation grenades.
One of the two grenades failed to explode, the police added. The two suspects, who were about to escape, were arrested immediately by responding policemen.
Colonel Buenaventura Pascual, commander of the military's Task Force Zamboanga, said the motive of the attack could be personal grudge.
The grenade explosion destroyed the rear portion of the couple’s pick-up vehicle. (Sunnex)
