FIVE fishing enthusiasts -- out of the close to 80 participants -- dominated in the “Mas Alegre na Zamboanga Pesca Kita” fishing competition on Sunday.
The competition is a post-Fiesta Pilar activity, which was held at the Paseo del Mar with Mayor Celso Lobregat doing the first casting.
Zamboanga Chabacano Anglers Club president Alfred de Leon said that 79 club members, who love fishing as a hobby, have joined the Sunday’s competition in coordination with the City Government through the City Tourism Office.
Five participants emerged as the luckiest to heaviest catch and won the prizes, he said.
Crizalde Ponce was declared champion with a total catch of two pounds (lbs.), which earned him a rod and reel plus a trophy.
Crizalde also won the single catch category, having fished a 1.58-lbs “mul-mul” barely 10 minutes before the competition closed.
The single catch category gave Crizalde another trophy.
Jojo Martinez placed second with 1.79-lbs catch, followed by Jeffrey Ranin with 1.29-lbs for third, Rolly Follero landed on the fourth place with 1.18-lbs, while Danny Lee’s 1.16-lbs catch made him to the fifth place.
All of them received rod, reel and trophy for prizes.
Now on its 3rd year, the “Pesca Kita” competition is one of the activities for the annual Fiesta Hermosa Festival in celebration of Fiesta Pilar.
It aims to promote the art of fishing as a hobby while providing quality time for family bonding.
