THE agri-trade fair dubbed as the “Cosechas de Zamboanga” culminated on Saturday afternoon with the recognition of the best performers during the 15-day exhibit.
The agri-trade fair, which was held at the historic Plaza Pershing, kicked off September 30 and is part of the events of the Fiesta Hermosa 2012.
Mayor Celso Lobregat together with City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat and Zamboanga Farmers’ Association President Reynerio Bejerano spearheaded the closing rite highlighted by the awarding of winners in the different competitions held during the agri-trade fair.
Lobregat thanked all the participants of the Cosechas de Zamboanga, which is already in its ninth year.
Lobregat expressed elation that the agri-trade fair was held annually during his three terms or exactly nine years in office.
Lobregat said he hopes that the next mayor of this city will continue with the program and “will have the same love and concern for our City of Zamboanga and the residents specially the farmers.”
The Cosechas de Zamboanga, since its opening, was a crowd drawer despite the inclement weather because of the variety of Zamboanga products displayed in 27 booths operated by different farm groups and associations from the six agricultural districts of this city.
The products put on display included ornamental plants, cut flowers, fruits and vegetables, delicacies, planting materials, landscape products as well as agri-fishery based products and numerous others.
The participating groups came from the Farmers’ Association, Rural Improvement Club, 4-H club, private plant nurseries, flower growers, office of the City Veterinarian and egg suppliers among others.
A techno-clinic was also conducted and succeeded in advising and guiding farmers and fisher folks who brought up their concerns.
Among the major winners in the various contests were Tumaga District-best agricultural booth; Lyka’s Garden–best ornamental and Cut Flowers Booth; Griño’s Nursery–best planting materials’ booth; 4H Club-best agri fishery-based products booth; 4H Club-best delicacy and 4-H Club-best delicacy presentation and various winners in the ‘pinaka’ contest and landscaping contest.
