MOTROCYCLE-riding gunmen shot and killed a government disbursing officer and carted away some P2.4 million in the nearby province of Basilan, the police said Monday.
The Isabela City police said the incident took place shortly after 4 p.m. in the village of Eastside, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
Police identified the victim as Nurhassan Sakili, the disbursing officer of the Basilan Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO).
Investigation showed that the victim came from a government bank, where he withdrew at least P2.4 million to pay the salaries of the employees at PEO, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and Provincial Health Office, when he was shot and killed by two men riding tandem onboard a motorcycle, the police said.
The victim, who was driving his motorcycle on his way back to the office, was alone when attacked by the suspects, who took the victim’s sling bag containing the money as they fled, the police said.
Robbery is being eyed as the motive of the incident while investigation continues to identify the suspects, the police said.
