THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is set to install a new commander at the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom), which is based in Zamboanga City.
The new commander, who is expected to assume command on Wednesday, is Major General Rey Ardo, currently assigned as the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander based in Central Mindanao.
Ardo, a recipient of four Distinguished Service Stars, one Gold Cross Medal and one Bronze Cross Medal, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Dimalupig Class of 1981.
Ardo will replace Wesmincom chief Lieutenant General Noel Coballes, who was named as the new AFP vice-chief of staff.
He will be replaced by Major General Cesar Ordoyo, the chief of the Intelligence Service of the AFP.
General Jesse Dellosa, AFP’s chief of staff, is expected to preside the turnover of command at the Wesmincom on Wednesday, where Ardo will officially assume his new post, according to Wesmincom spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Randolph Cabangbang. (Bong Garcia)
