Communist rebel surrenders

A NEW People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered to the Bayanihan Team of the Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion on Monday in Barangay Gala, Tudela, Misamis Occidental.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division spokesman Captain Alberto Caber identified the rebel as Talas Sayas, alias Ka Toring and Ka Bimbo.

“Ka Toring was discouraged by the hardships he had while waging the useless war against the Filipino people,” Caber said.

Sayas was placed under custodial debriefing at the headquarters of the 55th Infantry Battalion, Caber added.

Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Almaria, commander of the 55th Infantry Battalion, said more NPA rebels are expected to lay down their arms as the year ends because they realized their struggle is useless.
