Rizal Day is observed every 30th of December in commemoration of his nationalism and martyrdom. It is celebrated throughout the country but the major celebration is held at Rizal Park, more popularly known as the Luneta Park in the city of Manila.

The event is highlighted by flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Jose Rizal Monument. Similar ceremonies are held at the Rizal shrines in Calamba, Laguna and Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, and the Rizal monument in Baguio City.

Rizal was a Filipino polymath, nationalist and the most prominent advocate for reforms in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era.

His 1896 military trial and execution made him a martyr of the Philippine Revolution. Rizal Day is declared a national holiday in the country.
