ZAMBOANGA City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo has warned owners of business establishments to be cautious in accepting credit cards from customers.
De Ocampo’s warning came after the arrest of a man claiming to be a German national who purchased more than P250,000 worth of jewelries using counterfeit credit cards.
The out-of-town suspect identified as Jerry Jax Rosales alias Mc Delbert Rosia Arriola was arrested last week at a shopping mall along La Purisima Street when the bank issued an alarm that his credit cards were counterfeited.
Before Rosales's arrest, the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has already received complaints from four business owners that they were victimized by the suspect, said De Ocampo.
De Ocampo said it was discovered that the suspect’s credit cards were fake when the bank confirmed that the security number and the card is owned by a certain Chua of Metro Manila.
He said they have already forwarded appropriated charges to the Office of the City Prosecutor against the suspect, who signed a 15-day waiver.
He said they are establishing the real address of the suspect who carries two addresses one of which is Siliman Street, Dumaguete City and Purok Pantua, Barangay Zone III, Koronadal City.
Meanwhile, De Ocampo said they are tracking down the whereabouts of the suspects who are reportedly here in Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia)
