Robbery suspect dead, another escaped

ONE of two robbery suspects was killed in a shootout on Wednesday with policemen while the other one escaped in this southern port city, the police reported.
Killed was Clarence Francisco while his companion, Rommel Thelmo, 35, managed to escape, according to the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) on Thursday.
Prior to the shootout, the police said that the suspects held up and robbed Ines Pereyra, 64, of P26,000 and other valuables like jewelry around 4:25 p.m. Wednesday along San Jose Road, west of this city.
The policemen, upon receipt of report, pursued the suspects who were cornered on a vacant lot at the back of a pharmacy along Governor Camins Avenue, thus, the shootout.
Francisco died on the spot with multiple gunshot wounds while Thelmo, who was believe wounded managed to escape brining with him the loot, the police said.
Thelmo is reportedly a son of an owner of the local security agency, according to the police.
The pursuing policemen recovered from the shootout scene a caliber .38 pistol and a knife, the police said. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
