POLICE arrested a security escort of one of the councilors of Zamboanga City on the first day of the election gun ban, a police official said Monday.
The election gun ban took effect nationwide on Sunday and will end on June 13, a month after the May 13 mid-term elections.
Arrested was Sabandro Manuel, 42, a civilian security escort of a city councilor, according to Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo.
De Ocampo said that Manuel was arrested around 9:15 p.m. Sunday at a checkpoint in the village of Boalan, eight kilometers east of the city.
Confiscated from Manuel’s possession was a .9-mm pistol with 13 live ammunitions, he said.
Manuel was arrested since he does not have a gun ban exemption from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) although he possessed a gun license and permit to carry, he added.
Manuel was detained while appropriate charges are being prepared against him, he added.
Meanwhile, De Ocampo ordered his personnel to strictly implement the election gun ban in Zamboanga City.
