Man killed, brother wounded in gun attack

A 38-YEAR-OLD man was killed while his brother was wounded in a gun attack in an east coast village in Zamboanga City, the police reported.

The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said the incident took place around 4 p.m. Saturday in the village of Salaan, 15 kilometers east of Zamboanga City.

The police identified the fatality as Romelino Delos Reyes, who died from bullet wounds in the chest and neck.

Wounded was Delos Reyes’ younger brother, Willian, 31, the police said.

They were allegedly shot by Roderick Atilano, a member of the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN), the police said.

Investigation showed that prior to the incident, the elder Delos Reyes was having a drinking spree together with some of his friends at his residence, the police said.

Moments later, the younger William passed by his brother’s residence and a heated argument ensued between them, according to the police.

The suspect saw the commotion and suddenly pulled out a .9-mm pistol and shot the younger Delos Reyes who was able to escape although wounded, the police said.

The suspect fatally shot the elder Delos Reyes who blocked his path and prevented him from pursuing the younger Delos Reyes, the police further said.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Police Station 4 and appropriate charges are set to be filed against him, the police added. (Bong Garcia)
