A SECURITY guard of a telecommunication tower was injured when an improvised bomb explosion rocked the municipality of Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte, according to a top police official on Tuesday.
Zamboanga del Norte Police Director James Mejia said the incident took place around 4 a.m. of Tuesday in downtown Siocon.
However, Mejia said the service of the telecommunications company was not disrupted since the explosion only caused minor damage on the communication firm’s cellular site.
Mejia said the security guard, whose identity was withheld, was slightly injured by the explosion.
The security guard was conducting inspection when an improvised explosive device (IED) was lobbed towards the telecom tower by unidentified suspects, Mejia said.
He said the security guard failed to recognize any of the suspects as it was too dark since there was a blackout at the time of the incident.
Investigation continues to unmask the suspects behind the attack, he said.
