Raps filed vs intelligence network member

THE police have filed criminal charges against a Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) member tagged as responsible in the killing of a 38-year-old man and injuring the younger brother in an east coast village in Zamboanga City.

Charged for murder and frustrated murder before the City Prosecutor's Office was Roderick Atilano, who surrendered after he allegedly shot the victims one after the other, the police said Wednesday.

The police reported that the suspect shot the victims Romelino Delos Reyes and his younger brother, William, 31, around 4 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Salaan.

The elder Delos Reyes died on the spot while his younger brother was admitted at the hospital.

Investigation showed that prior to the incident, the elder Delos Reyes was having a drinking spree together with some of his friends at his residence, the police said.

Moments later, the younger William passed by his brother's residence and a heated argument ensued between them.

The suspect saw the commotion and suddenly pulled out a .9-mm pistol and shot the younger Delos Reyes, who was able to escape although wounded, the police said.

The suspect fatally shot the elder Delos Reyes, who tried to stop him from pursuing the younger Delos Reyes, the police added.

The suspect has availed of his right for preliminary investigation by signing a 15-day waiver. He is currently detained at the headquarters of the Police Station 4 pending resolution of his case. (Bong Garcia)
