THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is complementing the effort of the City Government of Zamboanga in promoting the Great Sta. Cruz Island to become a premier site for eco-tourism here.
DOT Zamboanga Peninsula Director Mary June Bugante said Tuesday that part of their effort is to conduct a one-day familiarization tour to the Great Sta. Cruz Island, which is known for its pinkish sand, for the members of the local media.
Bugante said the tour, which is scheduled to be held on Friday, is aimed to generate media hype for the promotion of the island to visitors.
The local government has allotted an initial amount of P20 million to start the development of the eco-tourism park at the Great Sta. Cruz Island, 1.9 nautical miles south of this city.
The City Government envisions for the development of a P50-million eco-tourism park at the Great Sta. Cruz Island.
The eco-tourism park will be an environment low impact development project with the main goal of making the Great Sta. Cruz Island a premier site for eco-tourism.
Bugante said the familiarization tour include visit to the Samal Burial Ground, community, lagoon and mangroves.
