THE police have launched manhunt operations to recapture a jail trustee who escaped while on errand to buy eggs in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official said Wednesday.
Superintendent Nelson Eucogco of Police Regional Office (PRO-9) identified the prisoner as Roland Tomabok, 23, of Miatan village, Katipunan town.
Eucogco said that Tomabok was convicted of theft and sentenced to serve a jail term of six months and one day to one year and eight months to 20 years.
Tomabok was detained at the provincial jail located in Don Jose Aguirre village, Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte, Eucogco said.
Tomabok, who is categorized as prisoner errand/trustee, was sent on Thursday night of last week to buy eggs outside the provincial jail and never returned, he said.
The detailed jail guard went to look for Tomabok, but failed to find the latter prompting the jail authorities to seek police assistance to recapture him, he said.
All of the municipal police stations in Zamboanga del Norte are already alerted for Tomabok’s immediate recapture, he added. (Bong Garcia)
