THE City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) would soon have their own headquarters and cinematheque, respectively, in Zamboanga City.

The CDRRMC headquarters and cinematheque will rise at the 406 square meters lot in Pettit Barracks, which is covered by a usufruct agreement between the City Government and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Mayor Celso Lobregat and FDCP Chairman Briccio Santos led Saturday the groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction of the CDRRMC headquarters and cinematheque.

First to break ground was the P28.1 million CDRRMC headquarters, followed by the P4 million cinematheque project.

Lobregat said the CDRRMC headquarters will be a two-storey edifice, with parking shed for all rescue equipment and site development.

The cinematheque is a 180-seater theater intended to screen for free, indie Filipino and international films, said Santos.

The cinematheque, which is the fifth to be constructed by the FDCP in the country, will also serve as a learning hub for film and related audio visual interests, Santos added.

He said it will also serve as venue for series of workshops and symposiums aimed to enhance skills on scrip writing, directing, cinematography and other aspect of filmmaking. (Bong Garcia)
