GOVERNMENT troops have clashed with a group of pirates tagged as responsible for the series of atrocities at the provincial waters of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, a military official said Tuesday.
The clash ensued around 10 a.m. Monday in between the towns of Margosatubig and Malangas, which are located in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, respectively.
Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander Major General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said the troops were on seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the group of Kiyang Balimbingan.
Cruz said Balimbingan, who at that time was with four of his followers, fled toward Barangay Bacao, Malangas.
The group of Balimbingan was believed to have suffered injuries as bloodstains were found on the motorized banca they abandoned at the shore of Bacao village, Cruz said.
Troops were deployed to track down the whereabouts of Balimbingan’s group, said Cruz. (Bong Garcia)
