A NEW People’s Army (NPA) rebel has surrendered to the military in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, an official said Wednesday.
Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Almaria identified the surrenderee as Alex Dungog, alias Ronald, 28, a resident of Tabugon, Tambulig town.
Almaria said that Dungog yielded without firearms around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday to the detachment of the battalion’s Alpha Company in Tambulig.
Dungog is a member of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.
Almaria said the NPA rebel decided to surrender due to family reasons and hardship of living in the mountains.
Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander Major General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III welcomed the decision of Dungog to return to his family. (Bong Garcia)
