CLOSE to 1,000 people were displaced as flashflood hit two villages in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, military officials said Thursday.
Colonel Amadeo Azul Jr., commander of the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade (101IB), said the flashflood swept across the villages of Guinles and Conacon in the town of Piñan on Thursday morning.
Azul said the flashflood was spawned by continuous rains from Wednesday evening until Thursday morning.
Azul said a total of 950 persons were evacuated to safer grounds by the troops deployed to conduct rescue operations.
There were no reported casualties, Azul said.
Meanwhile, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander Major General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III has ordered all his unit commanders to closely monitor the situation and deploy with caution more Army rescue teams for rescue operations when necessary.
