THE local police have arrested three violators as the implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban continues, a top police official reported Friday.
Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo, Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge, said the arrest of the three has brought to seven the total number of election gun ban violators arrested in the city.
De Ocampo identified the three violators as Omaidi Salain, 18, and Basim Asmawil, 24, both of Basilan province, and Egien Damma of Tictabon Island, Zamboanga City.
De Ocampo said Salain and Asmawil were aboard a vehicle when they were caught in possession of two handguns around 9:20 p.m. Thursday at a checkpoint in the village of Sta. Catalina.
Confiscated from them were caliber .45 and .380 pistols without pertinent documents, De Ocampo said, adding that Damma was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Tictabon.
Policemen and soldiers were conducting patrol when they sighted Damma possessing an unlicensed caliber .45 pistol.
Appropriate charges were filed against them, De Ocampo said.
