THE sub-depot in Zamboanga City has been adjudged to have the second highest sales in common use supplies for 2012 by the Procurement Service, an attached agency to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The depot has started operation on May 25, 2012. The awarding ceremony was held last Wednesday in Manila with City Budget Officer Virginia San Agustin-Gara accepting the award on behalf of the City Government.
Gara in turn presented the award on Monday to Mayor Celso Lobregat during the flag raising ceremony.
Lobregat commended the people manning the sub-depot saying it is very promising that the city’s facility obtained the second highest sales in 2012 despite having started operation only during the last six months of last year.
The other contenders for the recognition were in operation for a year or over a year when the evaluation was done.
The Zamboanga City sub-depot is a government-run storehouse where cheaper but good quality common use office supplies are made available for local government units in Zamboanga Peninsula and nearby areas.
The sub-depot is presently housed at the Vitaliano Agan Coliseum.
It is being managed by the City Government through the City Budget Office under Gara.
Under the agreement, the Procurement Service will provide stocks in accordance with the supply requirements of the province, its component LGUs, national agencies within the province, national and local agencies in neighboring provinces.
The DBM, on the other hand, will provide marketing support and supervision over the sub-depot and the regional director shall act as the regional supervisor for all sub-depots in the region.
The establishment of sub-depots in the country is provided under section 6D of Administrative Order No. 17 dated July 28, 2011 which encourages LGUs to establish depots in their locality as part of their economic enterprise activity.
The sub-depot is a storehouse of common-use supplies, materials and equipment, for the requirements of the national and local agencies within Region IX and neighboring regions, including government corporations and LGUs. (Bong Garcia)
