5 fishermen nabbed for illegal fishing

GOVERNMENT security forces have arrested five fishermen for illegal fishing off shore Zamboanga del Sur province, a police official said Wednesday.
Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the combined police and military forces were on security patrol in the waters of Mabuhay town around 12:34 p.m. Tuesday when they caught the fishermen red-handed exploding improvised dynamite while fishing.
The arrested fishermen were turned over to the custody of the police in Mabuhay municipality for the filing of appropriate charges in court against them.
They were not identified in the report submitted by Zamboanga del Sur police provincial office to the Zamboanga Peninsula police headquarters, Huesca said.
Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were a 10-horse power powered motorized banca, one compressor tank, 50 meters hose, four pieces flipper, and one ice box containing more or less eight kilograms of assorted fish, Huesca added. (Bong Garcia)
