ZAMBOANGA City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo has ordered investigation to identify the mother of a newborn who was abandoned in the city’s Bay Walk.
The newborn baby girl, whose body was wrapped in a cloth and placed inside a plastic bag, was already dead when found on Monday near R.T. Lim Boulevard's Bay Walk.
The baby's body was still fresh when it was found by a fisherman, Waldy Tarroza.
Tarroza said he discovered the baby girl after opening a plastic bag he saw and got interested with the cloth inside it.
The baby was about seven to eight pounds and had white complexion. She was possibly dumped in the area at dawn Monday, the police said.
De Ocampo has ordered his men to coordinate with establishments nearby, to determine whether they have closed circuit television cameras that could have captured the person who dumped the newborn.
He said the video would help them identify easily the mother, so that appropriate charges can be filed against her. (Bong Garcia)
